So, Alayna has been sleeping through the night now for about 3 weeks! For some reason (could it be the parenting) my children haven't been able to sooth themselves to put themselves to sleep. Arianna was the worst!
Anyway, I have had to do the "crying themselves to sleep" tactic on both. Arianna's habbit took about 3 days to break and Alayna just 1. However, Arianna would go right to sleep for her naps too, but Alayna won't. I don't mind putting her to sleep, but she usually wakes up as I am leaving the room. Those 10 minutes of sleep give her just enough rest to not be tired...for about 1 hour, then she is cranky!
Any suggestions on how to get my child to take naps...without nursing her to sleep? I'll try just about anything!

Do the same thing that you do at night and if she is still crying after a set time, no nap that day. You'll be surprised how fast they catch on.
I don't have any good tips. Julia will sometimes cry on our walk up to her room for naptime. The best thing I have found with Julia is making sure that I find the "right" time for her to take a nap and that is anywhere from 2-3pm. Probably later than most kids but she doesn't get up until about 8:30. If I try to put her to bed any earlier there are lots of tears. Good luck!
The best thing I have found is having a routine. It has been super hard for me. The easy part is doing the same thing when you put them down. We sing the same song and do the exact same routine for all naps and bedtime so they know what time it is.
The hard part of keeping a routine for me is the timing. Having naptime at the same time every day made a big difference for us. Again, so hard for me. If I am out, I would rather stay out then leave one errand undone etc. Good Luck!!!
I second Lisa! Let them cry for nap time too! Riley cried for almost 2 hours one day when she was a baby, and never went back from there. Its hard though 1 minute of crying seems like an hour, put some head phones on or something!
